Loss of throttle function can be caused by something as simple as a loose connection but in other cases, it may be due to a damaged component. If there is a loss of a function on your ebike and an error code is displayed, refer to the ERROR CODES section of the Help Desk to proceed with correcting the issue. In some cases, there may be no obvious explanation for the current issue. This guide will assist in diagnosing a loss of throttle function when an error code is not present.
If the bike loses throttle function while the bike is on, the first thing you should do is check for any clear signs of damage to the throttle or the cables and check for any loose connections. It is important to inspect the cables coming from the display, main wire harness, motor harness, torque or cadence sensor, and the controller.
- If any connections are loose, check for dirt or damage and reconnect the connection. Follow up by testing the bike for proper function.
- If any cable, connection, or component is damaged, the associated part should be replaced. Once the new part is installed, test the bike for proper operation.
Depending on the model of the bike, your throttle will either plug into the wiring harness or it will plug directly to the display. Below are examples of throttles used on Aventon bikes.
Standard Throttles
Shifter/ Throttle Assembly (Sinch.2 ONLY)
-If the throttle is NOT functioning but the pedal assist (PAS) and walk mode ARE functioning, the throttle should be replaced first.
-If both the throttle AND PAS are NOT functioning, replace the controller first.
- When you press and release the throttle, it should return to the original position. If the throttle does not return smoothly, clean/ remove any obstructions preventing proper movement. Retest function.
- Check the throttle, throttle cable, and (harness or display) for damage. An example of damage could be a cut or frayed cable or a cracked component. Replace the component that has visible damage. Retest function once the new part is installed.
- If this fails to resolve the issue, replace the throttle assembly.
- If the throttle replacement does not fix the issue, replace the controller.
- If both the throttle and the controller have been replaced, replace the display harness and the display.
